Get Involved

Whether you just joined WGA or have been a Member for years, we welcome your involvement!

There are as many ways to get involved in WGA’s work as there are Members. You can simply be an Investor…or you can be President. It’s entirely up to you, with no obligation to do anything, and no guilt — ever.

However, if you do want to get involved, you can tailor your involvement, dialing your participation up or down to meet your interests and your available time. Meet new friends, deepen your understanding of important issues and enjoy the satisfaction of helping to transform the landscape for women and girls in Northeast Florida, now and in the future.

As an organization by, for and about women, we understand the many demands on your time. The most important thing you can do each year is contribute your membership fee and vote for proposed grants. Beyond that, there is no obligation to do more.

“I may have been the original 'Happy Check Writer.' I was a Founding Member of WGA, but was never involved until I retired. The next thing I knew, I was President-elect!”

Julia Taylor, Past President

Ways To Get Involved

If you would like to get more involved, there are many opportunities to do so. You can always change your level of participation, or step back if you find yourself overcommitted. Many women have found it a good way to try out something new and/or meet new people, with the opportunity to opt out if it is not such a good fit.

We invite you to consider the following opportunities:

  • Attend an event – Meet new people, learn about the issues and enjoy spending time with fellow Members and guests. We offer many events throughout the year, including:
    • Large semi-annual luncheons in the spring and fall (Member Forum and Annual Meeting)
    • Smaller educational events, lectures and panel discussions
    • Connector events in your neighborhood
  • Participate in Connector Groups – Connect with WGA Members in your neighborhood at relaxed social/educational events nearby twice each year.
  • Join a committee – Lend your time and talents to whatever committee interests you most: Advocacy, Communications, Education, Finance, Grants or Membership.
  • Volunteer – We have one-time and short-term commitments such as helping out at events, reviewing grants (from the comfort of your home or office), reporting or photographing for our e-News newsletter or volunteering “on call.”
  • Check us out on social media – Like or follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn and help spread the word about WGA by sharing our posts.

In Her Own Words

“Hey! Everything in life is not glamorous, but the work is still important. I have written an article a month for eNews for several years now and have the satisfaction of making a difference (but from the comfort of my home). I love it!

– Linda Hull, Member

“After we retired and moved to Amelia Island, I wanted to meet like-minded women in both Nassau County and Jacksonville.  WGA has been such a great experience for me.  I’ve met women locally beyond my neighborhood through my Connector Group, as well as at ‘downtown’ WGA events.  Plus I’ve learned a lot about local challenges for women and girls in Northeast Florida.  By giving through WGA, I am able to impact a broader number of worthwhile charities than I can directly support through my volunteer work.  The power of collective giving results in greater impact on our community.”

Kara Williams

“One of the benefits of WGA is the joy that comes from being part of a highly respected giving circle funding quality initiatives. Another perk is the relationships formed with extraordinary women of diverse backgrounds, talents, passions, and life experiences.”
