Give a gift to the Women's Giving Alliance and you'll create a powerful ripple effect of change.

You don’t need to be a WGA member to contribute to the work of WGA. Each year, many donations come to WGA from our supporters who are NOT members, but still support our objectives and approach.

Who Can Make Special Gifts

  • Women who cannot make a full membership contribution in the current year
  • Friends of WGA
  • Foundations, family trusts, corporations, and various organizations

Sometimes these gifts are unrestricted. Other times, such donations are targeted to the grant pool, to special projects, or to the area of highest need. Such gifts can also be added to WGA’s endowment.

In addition, from time to time, WGA members give supplemental donations in a given year to further the work of WGA. Read below about six ways supplemental donations have had a large impact on the work of WGA in recent years.

6 Ways to Donate (Beyond Being a Member)

There are many benefits to collective giving. In addition to multiplying one’s individual gift to achieve a greater impact, collective giving offers other advantages:

  • Increase the grants pool – Donate to the WGA Grants Pool in a given year to increase the monies available for strategic grantmaking. You do not need to be a member to donate to the Grants Pool; if you are a member, you can make a supplemental tax-free donation designating your gift for grants.
  • Set up a challenge fund  – Establish a match fund to incentivize others to make a stretch gift or for a special purpose.  It’s fun, you get “more bang for your buck”, and it motivates others to donate to a cause you believe in.  Although match funds focus on members, anyone can set up a challenge fund – and/or contribute to it!
  • Make a tribute gift – Make a gift in honor or in memory of someone special. This could take the form of a gift to the grant pool or special projects fund – or even be a gift membership to an important woman in your life.
  • Help build WGA’s endowment – Make a gift to WGA’s permanent fund to ensure lasting support for programs benefiting area women and girls. This can take the form of Legacy (Lifetime) Memberships as well as planned gifts and bequests that are part of your end-of-life documents. Contributions can be in the form of cash, equities, real estate, and/or life insurance.
  • Recruit friends and acquaintances – Over 97% of WGA members say that the principal reason they joined WGA was because of friends and acquaintances.  Contribute to work you care about by sharing about WGA with a friend or neighbor.  In the process, you’ll increase the size of the grants pool. And … you’ll be in great company!
  • Contribute to a special project – From time to time, WGA has special needs or one-time initiatives.   Contributing to these efforts through cash and/or in-kind services enables WGA to flourish and stay contemporary without dipping into regular operating funds.

The Impact of Special Gifts

Here are some recent special projects which happened only because of the generosity of special gifts.

  • Focused training for WGA’s leadership team
  • Technology upgrades
  • WGA’s 20th Anniversary activities, special events, and  videos
  • Custom research on the status of women and girls
  • Outreach events
  • Member surveys

In Her Own Words

In 2022, WGA made its largest grants distribution. Much of this was due to the generosity of individuals.  WGA Legacy Member Linda Watkins’ partner of 33 years, Cathy Drompp, (pictured above) is deceased, but through The Catherine M. Drompp Fund, Linda donates to causes that Cathy believed in.  “When I learned I could give additional funds to the WGA grants pool, I decided to do so because it is a good way to support many organizations at once. And all are vetted by the smart women on our grants team.”

– Linda Watkins, Legacy Member

“Because I was involved with WGA’s Grantmaking process, I saw amazing proposals every year that we could not fund. So early in 2020, my husband and I set up a challenge fund for extra gifts to the 2020 grant pool. Fifty donors joined us to provide an additional $66,650 in our efforts to Break the Cycle of Female Poverty. So many women and girls need our help! We were thrilled to be the catalyst for this effort.”

– Barb Wenger, Grants Leadership Team past co-chair

“I love my daughter – and I love WGA. I was so happy to gift her with her very own Legacy Membership on her birthday. I wanted her to understand the ways an endowed fund supports WGA.  She was thrilled for such a unique and impactful gift helping women and girls. Talk about a “Win-Win”!”

– Mary Pietan, WGA past-President
